If Teamfight Tactics seems like a game with rather basic mechanics at first glance, it has several sometimes hidden peculiarities that can be used to improve your results. Position yourself well during the first Carousel

The first carousel is an opportunity to choose your first component which can then define the type of composition you want, especially if you take a Spatula. While where the champions will be once the gates open might seem like a hit or miss, it's actually possible to know roughly where the one you want will be. When champions appear, locate the champion you're interested in, then see where it is the third champion behind him. That's pretty much where the one you want will be when you can pick it up.

On the first image, let's say you want to take neeko. Take a good look where Malzahar (third unit behind her) and position yourself in front.

At the end, neeko finds itself roughly where was Malzahar at the start of the carousel.

Sell a Carousel unit for interest

It sometimes happens that you are at 28 gold for example before a round of carousel, which does not allow you to obtain the 3 gold interest of the level of 30. There is however a trick which will help you to obtain interests more quickly: it is possible to sell the unit you got on the carousel before the next round. To do this, return to your board after choosing your champion, then put your cursor on the rightmost square of your bench that is not occupied and spam the E button (which is for sale).

As you can see from the gif, the Dr. Mundo was sold before the end of the round, which allowed the player to go from 28 to 31 gold, and thus to reach the higher interest level. If he was at 25 gold, he could also have sold his 2 Renektons via the E key (default) to reach 30.

Prevent a unit from combining after obtaining it from the Carousel

You have probably already had a scenario like this: you have 2 Volibears on the bench, and you need a Curved Bow for another champion. When you get to the carousel, there's a Curved Bow available on a Volibear, which may cause yours to level 2, preventing you from picking up the component unless you sell your unit after the combination. If the first solution would be to sell one of your copies on your bench, then sell the one in the Carousel, it is possible to sell the latter directly before it has time to combine.

Similar to the previous trick, instead of going to your board and spamming the E key (to sell) on a space on your bench to sell it as soon as it arrives, this time you go stay on the carousel and spam the E key directly on the unit in question attached to your little legend. Normally, you will be able to sell it before it reaches your bench and combines with the others.

Get his Little Legend away from the opponent before he dies

If you've watched streamers on TFT, you've no doubt seen them go to the furthest corner of the opposing little legend with their own when they're about to lose. This trick, which is very simple to perform, actually has a purpose: the damage inflicted on your avatar starts from that of the opponent, and therefore takes longer to reach you if you are far from him. This second of gain can sometimes allow another opponent to lose before you, thus making you gain a place in the final classification.

Buy units while rolling

The probabilities of finding a champion on TFT are quantifiable: for each champion tier (1 gold, 2 gold...), there is a limited number of units for each champion. For example, there are 10 copies available for each legendary champion (5 gold). If someone else has one of the one you're looking for, then there are only 9 available. So you can use these numbers to your advantage: when you roll (refresh) to try to find a particular champion, buy all those of the same tier that you come across. This will slightly increase your chances of getting the one you want.

If you're looking for a Zed, but buy multiple Singeds along the way, you'll be less likely to see a new Singed spawn for each Legendary Champion that ends up in your shop, increasing your chances of finding Zed. You can then sell the units you didn't need. This tip applies to all times when you roll several times: hyper roll strategy, end of game...

Buy and resell unnecessary units from your store

As said in the previous point, when the game offers you 5 champions to buy at the start of each round or after rolling, these are removed from the number available to opponents as long as they are in your shop. As a result, if you have champions that aren't useful to you or your opponents, it may be worthwhile to buy them and resell them instantly. Doing so makes them available again to other players if they're rolling, slightly reducing their chances of finding the other champions they're looking for.

Choose the champion carrying the Zephyr well

When you complete a Zephyr, and you have not yet equipped it on one of your champions, it may be worth waiting for the start of the round to use it. Thereby, during the first seconds before the fight starts but when you see the opposing team, you can choose who to give it to to hit a priority target, which will usually allow you to win a round easily.

As a reminder, the Zephyr always hits the target opposite the champion equipped by symmetry, or the closest one. Here, putting the object on Ezreal at the last moment, it allows to affect the Jax opponent who could have been problematic with its object.

Reposition a champion faster

In order to better play with or against the Zephyr, or against Assassins for example, it is generally recommended to modify your positioning at the last second at the end of the game (especially in 1 against 1). You then want to see how your opponent is positioned, then return to your board to change the position of one of your champions at the last moment. To do this, there is a trick that saves precious time. By selecting one of your champions by holding down the left click, then using the 1, 2, A or R keys (by default) to go to the opponent's board, you can keep your champion selected while watching what the other player. It is therefore possible to return to your board at the last second with the Space key, and drop it on the space of your choice.

Here, the player selects his Master Yi equipped with a Zephyr, looks on the opponent's board where the carry (Kindred) is and where the other player moves it at the last moment, then returns to his board to put Master Yi at the right place. He thus gains a precious second compared to if he had had to select his Master Yi to move him at the last moment.

Make its positioning unpredictable

Also in late game last second positioning situations, there is a trick to make your board totally unpredictable for the opponent so they can't try to hit one of your priority targets via a Zephyr or Assassins. This consists of bring all your units back to your bench at the last moment by pressing Z on each of them, causing the game to reposition them randomly at the start of the round.

Another variant is to repeat the same manipulation (press Z on all your champions) when they are on the bench to reposition them all on the last line rather than randomly. This trick is obviously not recommended in all situations, but can come in handy in some desperate moments to greatly reduce the chances of your carry getting hit by the Zephyr.

Take advantage of the mana item bug

This cheat is mostly a bug, we don't encourage you to use it and it should be fixed in upcoming patches. All items that build from a tear of the goddess give 20 mana points (except the Seraph which gives 40). However, it is possible to give one of your units 40 mana points at the start of the round by combining the item at the last moment. Give the Tear to your champion, wait for the round to start and the opposing team to be on your board, then just before the fight begins, complete the item with another component. This will give him 20 extra mana for this fight, which he's not supposed to have.

For example, if you want to give a Spear of Shojin to your Malzahar: give him the Tear of the Goddess, wait until the last moment before the start of the fight and then give him the BF Glaive to complete the object. Instead of starting the fight with 20 mana from the Tear of the Goddess, it will start with 40 mana.
